Diversification in Stock Portfolios Example

Diversification in Stock Portfolios Example Diversification in Stock Portfolios â€" Speech or Presentation Example > Diversification in Stock Portfolios Table of Contents Problem 20 A risk-averse investor is one who, when given a choice of two investment options with similar expected return, would have a preference for the option which has comparative lower risk. In this case, a risk-averse investor is given two completely different economies as options and has a choice of investing in either of the two economies. The two economies have identical expected return and similar volatility of all the stocks. But in the first economy, each and every one stock move in the same trend, i.e. in good times the price of every stock rises simultaneously and in bad times the price of every stock descend together. On the contrary, in the second economy the price of one stock has no effect on the price of the other and hence the stock returns are independent. Diversification in stock portfolios represents reduction of risk by investing in a variety of stocks. It is a common approach based on the old saying that ‘one should not put all his eggs in a single basket’. An investor who diversifies her assets among numerous investments or stocks can lessen the instability of her portfolio, proviso the stocks are imperfectly correlated (Campbell, 2000). Correlation is an evaluation of how two stocks move in comparison to each other, they are said to be correlated if both of them move in a similar trend. If all the stocks in a particular portfolio shift in a similar direction i. e. when markets are favorable all the stocks show an upward movement and when markets are not favorable all of them show a downward slide; then such a portfolio cannot be considered to be properly diversified. Thus, the mere investment in various stocks does not diversify one’s portfolio; one has to also consider the correlation between the stocks where one’s ass et has been invested. An association between two stocks can be positively correlated, negatively correlated or non-correlated. In some instances, these positive correlations are easily visible, for example in the cases of gasoline and crude oil or silver and gold (Tanous, 2008, p. 48). In such cases, as one market moves, the other has a tendency to move in the same trend. Therefore, diversification would not be accomplished by buying both gold and silver, or gasoline and crude oil. Negatively correlated stocks tend to progress in entirely opposite track, when one moves up, the other moves down. While negative correlations do offer diversification opportunities, they might not be the best strategy to employ  as they tend to neutralize the returns achieved. When looking for diversification prospects, it is significant to focus on stocks that are non-correlated to one another. Such stocks are independent of each other and it is best to hold the stocks that will profit independently (Patel, 2004). The returns on two or more completely correlated stocks would shift toward positive and negative direction together and a portfolio of such stocks would be precisely as risky as the individual specific stocks (Besley Et. Al, 2007, p. 320). Thus, investing in the first economy, where the stocks in the portfolio are inclined to shift in the same way, is not advisable. Investing in stocks that have no correlation to one another can help to reduce risk without compromising on the returns (Patel, 2004, p. 78). Thus, it is advisable to invest in stocks in the second economy. References Besley, S. Et. Al. (2007). Essentials of managerial finance. Cengage Learning. Campbell. J.Y. (2000). Comparing the Peaceweavers - Free Essay Example

Comparing the Peaceweavers and the Hell Brides in Beowulf Throughout the British Literature time period of 450-1066: the roles and perspective of women were very subjective in the idea that a woman needs a man to be powerful. An independent woman was viewed as weak and unimportant. The belief that a man good fix or heal an evil/ bad women was a common belief. By looking at the different roles Women play in Beowulf, women either have to be good or evil, there is no middle or in-between, to be good they seem to have to be affiliated with a man. Throughout the poem, there are several women Characters from Wealhtheow to Grendels Mother. While some are shown to be nice and loving others such as Grendels mom are portrayed as demonic monsters. The poet and novelist George Meredith said that every society must have its civilization judged by the way it treats its women: what happens in bodily fact, and also what is said, felt, imagined and fantasize by and about them. Sometimes there is a wide gap between fact and fancy(Herbert 1997). The two queens in Beowulf, Wealhtheow, and Hygd are married to the Kings Hrothgar and Hygela both queens take up the important jobs of cupbearer, Wealhtheow came in,Urging him to drink deep and enjoy it(Beowulf 612) and becoming Peaceweavers. A Peace weaver is a woman who married someone from an enemy tribe in order to establish peace between her family and his. The royal bride who holds out her welcome to bring warring tribes together in friendship at her wedding feast (Herbert 1997) Their main job was to see the comfort of the men and bear children(The Wifes Lament Pages). Queen Wealtheow is married to the enemy of her people, her daughters even carry drinks between the members of her own tribe and the Geats. The marriage of a peaceweaver is basically a political event but they actually do love their husbands and respect them. Now one of the Queens important jobs is to be the cupbearer what they do is carry the mead cup and pass it to the King and his warriors. This role might seem passive but its actually empowering and adds to the queens power. They will give the cup first to the king because he is the highest in rank and the first time Beowulf would be the last to recover it, however, the second time around the order went from the King to Beowulf second. Haerehts daughter moved throughout the spacious building with mead cups, cared for the people, carried flagons to drink to the hands of the Heathens. The two queens play a role in politics and do influence it. After Grendels death by Beowulf queen Wealhtheow said a speech to Hrothgar. be gracious towards the geats(1173) and she heard they told me that you wish to take the warrior to be a son to you. I would think this means he would become king one day. After the king dies Hygd tries to pass the Beowulf the crown to be King, she did not trust that her son knew how to hold the throne of his homeland against foreign nations.( Beowulf 2373-76) In old English poems, noble women would give gifts Beloved Beowulf, enjoy this collar with good fortune, and make good use of this garment. Now on the opposite side of the spectrum, lets look at how Grendels Mother is portrayed compared to the queens. So for one, she is completely isolated and lives by herself in what she calls home in a cave under a lake. She is an independent woman and has no affiliation to a man other than her son Grendel. She is portrayed as an evil demonic monster, Grendels mother, Monstrous hell-bride, brooded on her wrongs. She had been forced down into fearful waters(Beowulf 1258). She is seen as evil and independent and t just so happens she has no male affiliation attached to her. perhaps, for this reason, Grendels Mother is presented as husbandless and son-obsessed- to suggest to an Anglo-Saxon audience the dangers inherent in womans functions as friousibb pledge of peace. The author Gives Grendels mom masculine traits. And uses masculine words/phrases to describe her. Grendels mother has the form of a woman(idese onlicnes, 1351) and is weaker than a man and more cowardly, for she flees in fear for her life when discovered by Heorot. The author occasionally uses a masculine pronoun when referring to her s be instead of so be in 1260,1497 and h instead of ho in lines 1392, 1394 (Heaney Beowulf A verse Translation 1895). Modthyrth a queen who punishes anyone if they look at her the wrong way. She killed anyone that came into her hall. To look her in the face, if an eye, not her lords Stared at her directly during daylight, The outcome was sealed: he was bound In hand-tightened shackles, racked, tortured until doom was announceddeath by the sword, Slash of blade, blood gush and death qualms in an evil display(Beowulf 1934). Modthyrth is shown as an evil queen and for good reason at that. She is almost stereotyped into how she should act because shes a queen. Even a queen Outstanding in beauty must not overstep like that. A queen should weave peace, not punish the innocent(Beowulf 1940). She is compared to Hygd she is presented as a how women are supposed to behave. Hygd is described as gracious in bearing and manner, attentive to the men around her, and loyal to her husband and lord. The author makes Queen Modthryth the foil of Hygd. A foil is a character whose traits contrast with and another. Even a queen Outstanding in beauty must not overstep like that. A queen should weave peace, not punish the innocent(Beowulf 1940). Queen Modhyth and Hygd are described as different and makes Hygd seem far superior to Modhyth. It carries the same ideology that a woman is supposed to act a certain way. She will eventually stop her bad doings and settle down to marry, as soon as she boarded a boat to cross the pale waters to marry Offa according to her fathers counsel. Once there the woman worked well on the throne, renowned for goodness(Good Queen Modthryth? How marriage makes women (and men) better 2018). This holds the idea that bad woman can be fixed by a man. Queen Wealhtheow and Grendels mother are similar in that they are both mothers. Wealtheow is seen as a more superior woman compared to Grendels mom because she is a peaceweaver, cupbearer and a queen. Grendels mom lives below the earth in an empty cave underneath a lake and Wealtheow lives above land and it in a castle. So there is a clear social class gap between the two. Wealhtheow represents the good in life, mankind, and light mindful of etiquette (Beowulf 613). Grendels mom represents evil, darkness, and danger. Wealhtheow is shown as a beautiful, childlike female, Grendels mom is fat, old, and lonely. The women in Beowulf closely resemble the Anglo-Saxon woman in that they had the option to choose who they could marry. Arranged marries were however usually held in the upper class, peace-weaving marriages were considered even higher. In order to become a peace-weaver, you had to be of high class to marry another tribes king in an effort to keep the peace. Some would argue they held more power than the kings since theyre the ones keeping peace from one anothers clans. The Queens were described as how and what women should act like and be during this time period. Queen Modryth was viewed as evil and helpless and had to have a man in her life to resolve her problems. If you look closely at the end of the book the women you are married/ have a man in close relation, are viewed as better or more important. Grendels mother doesnt even have a name for crying out loud. I wonder if she was married we would know her real name. The author gives the reader a biased description of her attacks against the humans, he didnt truly state her point of view which made her seem a selfish evil monster. Monstrous hell-bride( Beowulf 1259). I wonder if he added that she was doing the same act that Beowulf was doing itd be different. I mean Beowulf is avenging the men Grendels mom killed so why is he considered a hero when he caused their deaths by killing Grendel? Although the author is unknown I would bet the author was a male, just based on the trend of women cant be good until/ unless a man is in their life. Works Cited Good Queen Modthryth? Different Cultures That We May Encounter As Therapists

Thus far in the course we have learned how important it is to have basic knowledge on various cultures that we may encounter as therapists. According to Choudhuri, Santiago-Rivera, Garrett (2012), culture is defined as the personification of a worldview through learned and transmitted beliefs, religious and spiritual traditions, psychological processes, values, and practices. Moreover, it is a way of life that is shaped by ecological, historical, economic, and political factors on a specific group of people (Choudhur et al., 2012). I have learned culture goes beyond just race and ethnicity. Culture can be seen in the way people dress, the type of food they eat, the medicines they use, their religious practices, the people they chose to†¦show more content†¦In fact, there were only Spanish supermarkets, which are different than a Mexican market, which I was interested to explore. From my understanding, in Philadelphia people of Spanish culture are considered Dominican, Cuban , Puerto Rican, and other countries of Spanish decent. There are Puerto Rican neighborhoods and Dominican neighborhoods but they all consider themselves part of the same culture, which was interesting to me because in Texas, Mexicans were part of the Mexican culture and Dominicans were a part of the Dominican culture. Sources In terms of sources, I happened to find two interesting articles exploring cultural components of a Spanish supermarket. The first article I looked at was one that was a study of that what Spanish consumers think about organic food. I choose this article because I was interested in exploring if Spanish food can be healthy or organic. While I was in the market, I saw plenty of vegetables and produce, but I was unsure if there were any organic products. The article explored the view of organic food on the Spanish culture (Vega†Zamora, Torres†Ruiz, Murgado†Armenteros, Parras†Rosa, 2014). It was viewed as higher value and more expensive product. Due to this view of organic food, consumption is greatly impacted in the Spanish culture. Similar to the article above, I found another article about Spanish culture and food,

Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) Essay - 912 Words

Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) Life History The human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is an obligate intracellular parasite found exclusively in humans. It is responsible for weakening the immune system and leading to acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). The first case of AIDS was diagnosed in the U.S. in 1981, and in 1984 it was first proven that HIV caused AIDS. There is currently a pandemic of HIV/AIDS, with the highest incidence rate in Sub-Saharan Africa and the lowest rates in Western Europe and North America, due to better healthcare. Transmission HIV is spread by sexual contact or blood-to-blood contact. HIV is most commonly spread by sexual contact, including vaginal, anal and oral sex. Another important mode†¦show more content†¦HIV primarily attacks CD4+ helper T cells by recognizing and binding the CD4 receptor on the surface of the T cells. It can sometimes invade monocytes and macrophages as well since they also have some CD4 receptors on their surfaces. Tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-a) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) are secreted at higher levels in infected individuals, and this may help activate the HIV proviruses (latent viruses). HIV has a high mutation rate during replication with the reverse transcriptase, which is why it is able to readily evade our immune response. Disease HIV causes the gradual weakening of the immune system which can culminate in acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). About 2-4 weeks after initial infection with HIV there are generally flu-like symptoms that usually resolve themselves in a couple of weeks. The infected person then may go asymptomatic for a long time, often many years. The average development of AIDS in western nations, if untreated, is about 10-12 years after the initial infection of HIV. Persons with AIDS experience fatigue and excessive weight loss, along with fever, night sweats and swollen lymph nodes. The immune system is highly diminished in AIDS patients making them susceptible to many opportunistic diseases such as pneumonia caused by Pneumocystis carnii. Message to Garcia Essay - 2752 Words

A Message to Garcia by Elbert HUBBARD 1899 Apologia HORSE SENSE If you work for a man, in Heavens name work for him. If he pays wages that supply you your bread and butter, work for him, speak well of him, think well of him, and stand by him, and stand by the institution he represents. I think if I worked for a man, I would work for him. I would not work for him a part of his time, but all of his time. I would give an undivided service or none. If put to the pinch, an ounce of loyalty is worth a pound of cleverness. If you must vilify, condemn, and eternally disparage, why, resign your position, and when you are outside, damn to your hearts content. But, I pray you, so long as you are a part of an institution, do not condemn†¦show more content†¦Initiative The world bestows its big prizes, both in money and in honors, for but one thing. And that is Initiative. What is Initiative? I’ll tell you: it is doing the right thing without being told. But next to doing the thing without being told is to do it when you are told once. That is to say, carry the Message to Garcia: those who can carry a message get high honors, but their pay is not always in proportion. Next, there are those who never do a thing until they are told twice; such get no honors and small pay. Next, there are those who do the right thing only when necessity kicks them from behind, and these get indifference instead of honors, and a pittance for pay. This kind spends most of its time polishing a bench with a hard-luck story. Then, still lower down in the scale than this, we have fellow who will not do the right thing even when some one goes along to show him how and stays to see that he does it; he is always out of job, and receives the contempt he deserves, unless he happens to have a rich Pa, in which case Destiny patiently awaits around a corner with a stuffed club. Problems Of Adolescence Essay Example For Students

Problems Of Adolescence Essay Adolescence EssayAn adolescence is period of physical and psychological development from the onset of puberty to maturity. The adolescent is no longer a child, but they havent reached adulthood yet. Adolescence is considered people between the ages of 13 and 21. Puberty is the physical maturing that makes an individual capable of sexual reproduction. Puberty is important to adolescence because when a child hits puberty, thats when the child is becoming an adolescent. Puberty is a big part of an adolescents life. Adolescence is not cultural universal. In some societies, young children go straight from childhood to the adult life once they have done the necessary puberty rites. Puberty rites are formal ceremonies that mark the entrance of young people into the adult life. People at the age of 13 to 14 that completed these puberty rites can become accepted into the adult society. Three factors are important in the development of adolescence as a distinct stage of the life cycle. The first factor is education. Young children are required to spend many years in school and state laws make education mandatory up to the age of 16. The second factor that separates young people in a different type of group is the exclusion of youth from the labor force. In many states, child labor laws keep people from going to the labor force until they hit the age of 16. Adolescents usually work part time while still going to school. The third factor is the rise of adolescence as a distinct stage of the life cycle is the development of the juvenile justice system. Our society has in effect created a separate legal status for young people, by distinguishing between juvenile and adult offenders. There are five characteristics that all adolescents have. These characteristics are biological growth and development, an undefined status, increased decision-making, increased pressures, and the search for self. The brain and the endocrine system control biological growth and development. During the early stages of adolescence, individuals experience growth in height and weight, changes in the body, the development of sexual characteristics, and skin problems. For example, I started getting curves in my body when I hit puberty. My body started to develop changes. Our societys expectations for children and adults are clear, but for the adolescent, expectations are inexplicit. Some adolescents are treated like children, but some are treated like adults. There is an undefined status. For example, my parents pay for my lunch, but I have to have a job so I can support myself. Adults usually make most of the decisions for young children, but adolescents must make many decisions on their own. For example, when I was a child, my mother would choose what I would wear for school and what was in my lunch box. But now, I have to choose what I will wear, what I will eat, what kind of job I want to have and many more different decisions. Adolescents are faced with a lot of pressure from many different people. They get put under pressure from their parents to their peers. They also get pressure from school but the most pressure adolescents receive is from their own peers. Adolescents wants to be accepted and be liked their friends. They want to do what everyone else is doing, no matter how much they might not want too. For example, I was always pressured from my parents because they didnt want me to become a bad child like my older sister. They didnt let me go out or do anything with my friends, but my friends would pressure me to sneak out and do wrong things. I was getting pulled back and forth with a lot of pressure. .ue4a869b24c5427bbadc058547bfeae80 , .ue4a869b24c5427bbadc058547bfeae80 .postImageUrl , .ue4a869b24c5427bbadc058547bfeae80 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ue4a869b24c5427bbadc058547bfeae80 , .ue4a869b24c5427bbadc058547bfeae80:hover , .ue4a869b24c5427bbadc058547bfeae80:visited , .ue4a869b24c5427bbadc058547bfeae80:active { border:0!important; } .ue4a869b24c5427bbadc058547bfeae80 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ue4a869b24c5427bbadc058547bfeae80 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ue4a869b24c5427bbadc058547bfeae80:active , .ue4a869b24c5427bbadc058547bfeae80:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ue4a869b24c5427bbadc058547bfeae80 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ue4a869b24c5427bbadc058547bfeae80 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ue4a869b24c5427bbadc058547bfeae80 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ue4a869b24c5427bbadc058547bfeae80 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ue4a869b24c5427bbadc058547bfeae80:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ue4a869b24c5427bbadc058547bfeae80 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ue4a869b24c5427bbadc058547bfeae80 .ue4a869b24c5427bbadc058547bfeae80-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ue4a869b24c5427bbadc058547bfeae80:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Killer Angels Analysis EssayAnother example of pressure that adolescents face is an example from the show American High. Julian the Apostate and Fall of Paganism

Julian the Apostate and Fall of Paganism When the Roman Emperor Julian (Flavius Claudius Julianus) came to power, Christianity was less popular than polytheism, but when Julian, a pagan (in contemporary usage) known as the Apostate, was killed in battle, it was the end of Roman official acceptance of polytheism. Although paganism was popular, Julians practice was more ascetic than normal pagan practices, which may be why paganism failed when the Apostate reinstated it. From  Gore Vidals  Julian: Julian has always been something of an underground hero in Europe. His attempt to stop Christianity and revive Hellenism exerts still a romantic appeal. When the Roman emperor Julian the Apostate, died in Persia, his supporters failed to maintain support for paganism as the official state religion. It wasnt called paganism at the time, but was known as Hellenism and is sometimes referred to Hellenistic paganism. Instead of the ancient religion returning to the Roman Empire, the popular Emperor Constantines Christianity re-emerged as the dominant one. This seems odd since Christianity wasnt as popular among the people as Hellenism, so scholars have searched Julians life and administration for clues to why the apostasy (which means the standing away from [Christianity]) failed. Julian (born A.D. 332), the nephew of the first Christian emperor, Constantine, was trained as a Christian, yet he is known as an apostate because when he became emperor (A.D. 360) he opposed Christianity. In The Demise of Paganism, James J. ODonnell suggests that the emperors particularly vehement stance against Christianity (and support for the other monotheistic religion, Judaism) stems from his Christian upbringing. Julians Intolerance Although any such generalization is hazardous, pagans of the time generally held religion to be a private matter, while Christians behaved strangely in trying to convert others to their faith. They claimed that Salvation made possible through Jesus was the only true belief. In the wake of the Nicene Council, Christian leaders condemned all who failed to believe in the prescribed manner. To be a pagan in the old tradition, Julian should have let everyone worship as he or she wished. Instead of letting each person worship in his own way, Julian stripped the Christians of their privileges, powers, and rights. And he did so from their own perspective: the intolerant attitude that ones private religion is of public concern. From The Demise of Paganism: In summary, it is necessary to look upon the religious sociology of the fourth century with two separate (if often, and confusingly, overlapping) distinctions in mind: that between worshippers of Christ and worshippers of other gods; and that between men who could accept a plurality of worships and those who insisted on the validity of a single form of religious experience to the exclusion of all others. Julians Elitism Other writers say the failure of Julian to reintegrate Hellenistic paganism into the framework of Roman society came from his inability to make it popular and his insistence that true understanding is impossible to the average mortal, but is reserved for philosophers. Another important factor was that the Christian creeds were far more unified than paganism. Paganism wasnt a single religion and adherents to different gods did not necessarily support each other.   The panoply of religious experience in the Roman world before Constantine was simply bewildering: from back-yard fertility rites through public, state-supported cults to the mystical ascents of which Platonic philosophers wrote with such devotion- and everything between, over, under, and all around such phenomena. There were public cults indigenous to the various parts of the empire, certain generally (if often lukewarmly) accepted devotions such as that to the divinity of the emperors, and a vast array of private enthusiasms. That such a spectrum of religious experiences should produce a single-minded population capable of forming itself into a single pagan movement with which Christianity could struggle is simply not probable. Lack of a Powerful Pagan Successor to Julian In 363, when Julian died, he was succeeded by Jovian, a Christian, at least nominally, instead of the obvious choice, Julians praetorian prefect, the moderate polytheist, Saturninius Secundus Salutius. Secundus Salutius didnt want the job even though it meant continuing Julians mission. Paganism was diverse and tolerant of this diversity. Secundus Salutius didnt share the late emperors parochial attitudes or specific beliefs. No other pagan emperor came to power before the Roman state outlawed pagan practices. Even so 1,700 years later, we continue to be predominantly a Christian society in terms of our beliefs, it may have been the pagan attitude of religious tolerance that prevailed. Financial Markets and Institutions - Essay Example economy, impact of recent monetary policy on U.S. economy and the strategy for the use of bond markets. Foreign Exchange Market The foreign exchange market is an over-the-counter (OTC) market. The participants of foreign exchange markets are portfolio managers, importers and exporters, commercial banks, central banks, and foreign currency brokers. Types of Transaction and their benefits There are three types of foreign exchange transactions: spot transaction, forward transaction and swaps. A spot transaction includes deliver of the exchange by the seller of the foreign exchange to the buyer, on the spot, and the settlement of deal is within two business days. A forward transaction involves an agreement between the seller and buyer of currency to purchase or sell a preset amount of currency for a rate which is determined in advance at a specified date in the future. A currency swap is defined as a conversion of one currency into another with an agreement to revert it back at some date in the future. Forward transactions are valuable to the U.S. and global economies in several ways. It can fully eradicate risk by locking in now the rate or price at which the transaction is going to be made in future. Forward trading offer the economic benefits of risk control and price discovery as well as rich opportunity for speculation. It provides protection against price changes through hedging. Spot market is also considered as most developed market and central banks have judged it as the neutral market for interventions. Forward transactions also protect the investors and traders from exposure towards the fluctuations of the spot rate known as currency hedging. (Peng, 2008, p.194). Factors Affecting Interest Rates Interest rates are determined by the forces of demand and supply. There are numerous factors that affect the interest rates and these are as follows: First is the monetary supply and demand. The interest rates for saving accounts of U.S. citizens can be affected by the demand and supply of the currency in circulation and more demand and less supply result in a higher rates being offered. Second is the inflation. Inflation rate impact interest rates because every lender desire returns from the loan in order to reflect the reduced purchasing power. They add the expected or existing inflation value to the interest rates to evade losses. Third is the Central Bank policy. It helps to decide the interest rates for saving accounts. Fourth factor is the demand for credit. When the demand for credit is high, then the best savings account interest rates are seen. Interest rates tend to decrease with the decrease in the credit demand. Fifth factor is the economic state of the U.S. It enables to determine the interest rates for saving accounts. Interest rates tend to decrease with the recession and economic prosperity cause the interest rates to go up. Sixth factor is the expectation of the economic growth. Interest rates tend to increase when economic growth is predicted. Seventh factor is the level of competition among financial institutions. When financial institutions compete for consumer business, then the saving accounts and best interest will be seen.

Diversifying Education for the Better America Essay -- Learning Divers

Diversifying Education for the Better America America has been known to be a melting pot of different people from all kinds of cultures, ethnicities and backgrounds. No matter where you go, you are always surrounded by all walks of life and from those people, we have learned a lot. They have helped to shape who we are as Americans and what we stand for. Which is, that we strive and thrive on the cultural differences that are all around us. When the canon fails to include their points of view into our educational system, we suffer greatly. With out being exposed to other cultures and backgrounds, we are depriving ourselves of a richer education, from learning about other cultures and backgrounds. It is a shame that people from other cultures and backgrounds arent able to receive in the education that they would like because they are looked at as people who arent capable of doing so. Many colleges and universities just see immigrants as just that and nothing more. Colleges fail to truely see the desire and passion that is in the immigrants eyes to want to learn. Many of the immigrants that come to America are in search of a better life and a good education, because they cant get those in their homeland. The immigrants, in turn have to struggle through our educational system, that doesnt even acknowledge their points of view. Our educational system is based on the great books, books most of the immigrants who have migrated here know little or nothing about because they werent educated in those great books in the countries where they came from. They are being misjudged on their ability just because of their different cultural background, and in a way, punished for not knowing the great books. In the article: Lives on the Boundar... ... of the fact that everyone in this world deserves the best education that they can get. We also need to realize that everyone has the potential to be who they want to be in life, and to push them away because of social and cutlural differences is very wrong. We are depriving them, but mostly ourselves from learning from other people and becoming more culturally diversified. We should learn to look past these difference and realize that we are all one in the same when it comes to education. We all want the best education possible. Works Cited Hooks, bell. Anatman The Five Skandas And Emptiness

In short, the doctrine of the five Kansas implies that the â€Å"self† is radically Returning to the Second Noble Truth: The Second Noble Truth states: ducked has specifiable origins. Remember, the e root of ducked is, in part, . But this is a result of believing that the self is an thing and thus foolhardier. In addition, we can now see that is brought about by than manta. The three roots of suffering are thus: (craving to have) of the fact that ‘You† are no more 2. 3. Emptiness: The Sanskrit word (craving to not have) (Of the truth Of manta) is commonly translated as â€Å"emptiness. Due t the negative connotations of the word, many contemporary scholars of Bud hiss have suggested alternative translations such as â€Å"limitlessness† or â€Å"boundlessness. † In this class we'll stick to the common translation of â€Å"emptiness† while keeping in mind the at it does not mean that â€Å"nothing exists† or â€Å"nothingness. † Th ere are many layers to the concept that have developed throughout history . On the one hand, there is the he other hand, there is the notion which well look at presently. On t notion. Well examine this aspect when discuss mindfulness (in this section of the course) and Zane (in the Zen socio n).Two Metaphysical Senses of Emptiness: Sense 1: This oldest sense of the term is merely the concept of manta (and consequently the five Kansas). This is the understanding taken up by the Sense 2: tradition of Buddhism. This understanding is the newer of the two (although from our perspective it s quite ancient). In short, it is the claim that all of reality is radically not merely the â€Å"self. † This meaning of emptiness is corn to the tradition of Buddhism, and originates in the Mohammad philosophy of Nicaragua. However, we need a little bit more detail to do the notion justice.Dependent Origination: The central idea behind dependent origination is that everything is radically and i n radical One important consequence of this is that there are neither nor causes effects-?there is nothing that can be identified as the cause or the e effect. There is only the momentary interrelation of the five processes. Thus, reality is no more than a vast system Of _processes. Do not confuse this with the scalded â€Å"butterfly effect. † Another important consequence is that there are no There arena' metaphysically NT upon everything else. Objects. Indeed, everything is radically dependedOther terminology for dependent origination includes â€Å"interdependent arising † â€Å"interdependent coarsening,† or simply â€Å"interdependence. † Wrapping up: So, the distinction between the two senses of emptiness is really one of just r stringing the radical interdependence of the Kansas to the â€Å"self† and of globalization it to all of reality. However, the implications of globalization interdependence are important. The y include: 1. There are no 2. Everything is 3. There are no on and things at all. With everything else. 4. Literally nothing exists-?only causes and effects. Exist-?and thus no Exist. 5. Ignorance as a cause of ducked not only means that one is ignorant of the truth of manta, but that one is also ignorant of the above four facts (among others). These consequences are very important to note when discussing the differed CE between and which we won't be able to fully summarize until the end of this section. An Interesting Question: self next? Given that Buddhism accepts that notion of reincarnation yet claims that there e is no (but just a set of ever changing processes), what is it that is reborn from one lie fee to the Let's discuss this as a class.

Homelessness and AIDS - Free Essay Example

Homelessness and AIDS Orange County, California, located south of Los Angeles, is extensively known for dwelling among theme parks such as Disneyland and Knotts Berry Farm. Particularly during the late 2000s, homelessness developed into an increasingly sententious issue in the county. Homeless campaigners in the county asses that there are between 12,000 and 15,000 homeless persons throughout the county on any given night (Anonymous, 2004). Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Homelessness and AIDS" essay for you Create order Perhaps because of the lack of recognition of homelessness as a significant issue, there remains relatively little policy intervention regarding emergency shelter, affordable housing, or other issues specifically associated with homelessness. Across the County, for example, there are only about 1,000 shelter beds available (Orange County HIV Planning Advisory Council, 2006). There has not been a co-ordinated County effort to address homelessness, with many programs extremely vulnerable to the changing nature of federal, state, and private charitable funding sources. Research on homelessness in Orange County has indicated that it is both similar and distinct from homelessness occurring in urban, metropolitan, inner-city areas, such as the Skid Row areas of cities. Similarly to studies of inner-city homeless populations, samples drawn from the Orange County homeless population are largely male and unmarried, with large proportions of newly homeless such as people homeless for less than a year. A large proportion of these homeless persons have lived in the County for long periods of time, many living in the area for five years or longer (Gurza, 2002). For the layperson, when the topic is an infectious agent that produces human suffering and death, the question of origin becomes confused with the idea of responsibility. In a lot of civilizations, epidemics are seen as unnatural happenings caused by a variety of taboo infringements. Yet in modem Western cultures, victim responsibility and presenting disease as a reprimand from God are common. All through history, sickness has frequently been held liable on outsiders, as defined by race, ethnicity, religion, or nationality. In Western cultural concepts, the disease is considered unnatural, and the genesis of disease is best placed as far from people like us as possible. Outsiders may be humans who are different, or better yet, some other animal species (Weber Et Al., 2006). By accepting this orthodox view of disease causation, individuals and communities may unwittingly contribute to the spreading of AIDS. Such a view assumes that individuals, even impoverished minority groups members, have adequate resources to lead a healthy life and to engage in personal AIDS risk reduction (Weber Et Al., 2006). The development of the third anti-camping ordinance occurred during the same period that the county began massive budget cuts in response to the largest municipal bankruptcy case in U.S. history. The bankruptcy, which resulted from massive losses emanating from a risky municipal investment pool caused service cutbacks across departments and services and translated into direct service and monetary support cutbacks for Orange countys low-income residents. Because homelessness is fundamentally defined by lack of housing, housing is the essential foundation for ending homelessness. If we expect to end homelessness, we cannot merely divide the current resource pie differently, a strategy that inevitably pits one group against another (singles vs. families vs. youth vs. veterans). Such an approach also pits housing against shelter and housing against services. We need a massive national commitment public and private to ensure affordable housing for all. Housing is a basic human right, without which people cannot lead stable, connected lives. Housing is essential, but it is not sufficient. Housing alone, without attention to health, behavioral health, employment and education, and other supports, will continue to result in instability and recurrent homelessness for many people. A report by the Bassuk Center on Homeless and Vulnerable Children and Youth found that services are equally important †the other half of the equation that can provide stability and prevent future homelessness. We all need services. Health care is a service. Childcare is a service. Transportation is a service. So are case management, substance abuse treatment, and supported employment. Housing alone cannot address the myriad complex challenges facing so many people living in poverty and experiencing homelessness. We must find a way to ensure that services are available, accessible, and affordable across the lifespan. With such comprehensive supports, how can we expect housing alone to end homelessness in a way that is real, deep, and sustainable? If we focus on housing alone, we will never end homelessness. after decades of research and practice innovation, we never seem to generate the political will to fund such programs at levels necessary to meet the need. We celebrate housi ng 50 people here and a hundred there, and we should. But we continue not to do enough for the hundreds of thousands of individuals, families, and youth still experiencing homelessness each night in America. More importantly, we have yet to focus our full attention on homelessness prevention. Homelessness prevention means more than just intervening at eviction court and providing a short-term housing subsidy to stabilize a family who is about to be thrown out of their place. While that may be one important strategy, true prevention will require research to understand who is at most risk for becoming homelessness. Then it will require going as far upstream as possible to provide that person or family with the appropriate supports †financially, emotionally, and otherwise to ensure that they do not slip into homelessness. It will require immense creativity of a type that we have not yet mobilized in our national response to homelessness. Prevention will require a big view that can look across multiple systems housing, healthcare, homelessness, education, child welfare, criminal justice, employment, and many others to identify pathways into homelessness, then design solutions that catc h people before they fall. That is hard work. And it is work that many in the homelessness sector have said is not their job.
